LEARN ABOUT US

Good Neighbor Settlement House is a nonprofit, multi-service agency dedicated to assisting the needy men, women, and children of Brownsville, TX through programs that provide nutritious meals, clothing, showers, and support services. At GNSH, we serve our community through a variety of ways:

SOUP KITCHEN

We provide 3 nutritious meals per day Monday through Friday to anyone in the Brownsville community at no cost, as well as snack bags. In 2023, we served 312,766 meals.

RESPITE PROGRAM

We offer respite to those those seeking asylum after being released by Custom Border Patrol (CPB) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by providing basic needs like a hot meal, showers, a bed, and helpful resources.

CLIENT SERVICES

We aim to improve the individual’s
housing, health status, and social support network. We assist in areas such as: resume building, applying for benefits, case management, job search, and English to Spanish translation services.

MESA LLENA FOOD BANK

Mesa Llena is a Community Food Project of Good Neighbor Settlement House. It is a client choice pantry providing a variety of food options with access to fresh produce and healthy food choices for the homeless in the Downtown Brownsville and Buena Vida neighborhood.

HYGIENE PROGRAM

We provide hygiene kits and access to showers and laundry services because we believe that no one should be denied access to proper hygiene because of their housing situation.

OFFICE RESOURCES

120 clients claim the GNSH as their mailing address. Homeless clients have a place to receive their mail, use a phone/copy & fax machine,

MEDICAL SERVICES

Volunteer medical professionals provide free medical services to our unsheltered clients every Monday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. They can assist with medical consultations, prescriptions, and follow-up care. If you need this service, please contact our front desk to make an appointment.
